Landbou Radio – 2 March 2022

It is said that lambs that have been fed lamb creep feed, often experience less stress at weaning. When stress is minimized, health and performance will be impacted positively. In our program of 2 March, Dr Vos Grey of Jan Vos Estate and Stud breeder of SA Mutton Merino, talks about creep feed and special care taken to ensure that the ewe is in good condition before lambing. It is crucial to pay special attention to an ewe’s feed requirements as 80% of foetal development occurs during this phase.

Deon Vlok of Rontmondspoort near Calvinia is a well-known small stock farmer. He talks about the different Indigenuous Veldgoat eco-types and the Damara sheep.

André du Plessis is a council member of the Dorper sheep Breeders-Association. He is also a representative of the Overvaal Dorper Club. He talks about the growth in this sheep breed and the known qualities of the Dorper such as adaptability and good meat quality.

Dr Johnny van der Merwe, Director of AMT updates us on the latest trends in the grain and livestock markets.
