Mahindra’s new Scorpio-N is a modern SUV with versatility that few can match. The vehicle is newly designed to compete with the best globally and to catch the eye of prospective buyers price-wise. It’s not just the prices that impress, but also the modern look and appealing design.

The Scorpio-N is a spacious and safe family vehicle that is tough under the skin, but lavishly equipped inside. The toughness comes in part from its ladder frame chassis and four-wheel drive system (on selected models), which make it a serious off-roader.

Inside, the Scorpio-N is extremely spacious and can accommodate up to seven occupants and a huge amount of luggage with the utmost ease.

Luxury is a given with all models comprehensively equipped with every comfort feature you can think of, including cruise control, an air-conditioned central storage compartment, a large and bright infotainment touchscreen, hill hold and hill descent control, an electronic stability program and, on the best-specified model, a front camera, leather seats and an audio system with 12 speakers from the audio specialists at SONY.

Returning to the topic of safety, the Mahindra Scorpio-N boasts world-class safety features, such as six airbags and a rigid crash-frame. Its design and standard features have earned it a 5-star crash-test rating from the Global New Car Assessment Programme, the first vehicle with a ladder frame chassis to achieve such a good performance.

But it is the vehicle’s road behaviour that will make drivers fall in love with it. Whether on a tarmac or dirt road, its multi-link suspension and ladder frame give it on-road stability at cruising speeds and good wheel travel and damping off the beaten track.

On 4×4-models, the 4XPLOR drivetrain allows the driver to switch from two- to four-wheel drive while on the go. The system offers pre-set options for different types of terrain, including mud, sand, snow and, of course, a full low-range option. Add to this a good ground clearance as well as favourable approach and departure angles and the Mahindra Scorpio-N can tackle any terrain with ease.

Under the hood, a new version of the well-known 2.2-litre mHawk engine does duty. In this variant, it produces 128.6 kW and 400 Nm of torque through a six-speed automatic transmission. This family of engines are well-known in the Mahindra stable with a proven track record for reliability, good fuel economy and sufficient power output.

Add to that, Mahindra’s 5-year/150 000 km warranty and a 5-year /110 000 km service plan and peace of mind is a given.

With all these qualities, it is no surprise that the Mahindra Scorpio-N is a finalist in the South African Car of the Year competition. Its selection as a finalist in the Adventure SUV category is a welcome gift to Mahindra South Africa, which is celebrating its 20th birthday in 2024.

Over these past 20 years, Mahindra South Africa has made a deep and lasting impact on the local market, selling over 90 000 vehicles, opening an assembly facility in Durban and investing in new training facilities and a large national parts warehouse.
