As the dust settled on the Nampo Harvest Day 2026 grounds, one message remained clear: the South African farmer is a master of adaptation. Under this year’s NAMPO theme, “Resilience through Innovation,” the conversation in the lanes and around the stands focused on the reality of price-cost squeeze. With rising input costs and market volatility, the modern commercial farmer no longer seeks just a machine; they seek a partner that offers precision, speed, and, most importantly, versatility.

At the Manitou stand, we reflected on a heritage that was born from this exact need for resilience. Back in 1958, our founder, the late Marcel Braud, had a simple but revolutionary idea. Mr Braud inverted the layout of a farm tractor, added a lifting mast and hydraulic steering, and created the world’s first rough-terrain forklift. He named it “Manitou”, which is the French term for “handles everything.”

That spirit of “handling everything” was on full display this week. For the modern farmer, the era of owning a different machine for every niche task is over. Efficiency today is defined by “one machine, many jobs.”

Precision and Versatility

Manitou machines are designed to address your specific pain points, including the need for lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and higher daily output.

For the farmer navigating tight spaces, the MLT-X 625 and MLT-X 735 telehandlers were standout performers. Offering capacities of 2.5 and 3.5 tonnes respectively, with lifting heights of 6 and 7 metres, their compact frames are perfectly suited for buildings with narrow access, while the 4-wheel drive and 3 steering modes ensure all-terrain mobility. Compatible attachments designed specifically for the many demands on the farm make these Manitou machines truly versatile.

Equipped with the JSM (Joystick Switch & Move) for total control, the MLT-X range of Manitou machines take care of you all day long.

On the heavier side of handling, the budget-friendly MXT 840 telehandler, designed for medium height work sites, was a popular choice at Nampo. With a lifting capacity of 4 tonnes, the boom can extend to up to 7.6 m, ideal for loading and transporting lime and gypsum as well as various other repetitive tasks. Meanwhile, the robust MC 30-4 rough-terrain forklift demonstrated how Manitou solves the logistics gap. Built for uneven terrain, it seamlessly handles inputs and produce in your orchards or manages loads in the packaging warehouse.

Beyond dedicated lifting, the MBL-X 920 backhoe loader and our 1800R and 1640R skid steer loaders were also displayed on the stand, representing the ultimate agility. The MBL-X 920 is a true multi-tasker, engineered to handle everything from heavy-duty excavation and drainage maintenance to precise material loading. Complementing this power are the 1800R and 1640R skid steers, redefining efficiency through their ability to quickly switch attachments. Whether you are clearing feedlots, working in poultry application, clearing hard surfaces with a sweeper or moving specialised pallets with forks, these loaders eliminate the need for a fleet of single-purpose machines. By consolidating your tasks into these versatile workhorses, you are able to simplify your operations and drive down the “idle time” that affects your profitability.
