World Hunger Day

Foodbank South Africa needs donations

World Hunger day is celebrated on the 28th of May

FoodBank SA distributes 300 tons of food per month to more than 1 000 non profit and community based organisations, including crèches and schools in impoverished areas as well as residential care facilities.

World Hunger Day is aimed at inspiring people around the world to consider the poor and to take action against hunger and poverty in their own countries.

FoodBank SA’s patron, Bryan Habana, is appealing to people to participate in World Hunger Day, by supporting its dedicated SMS line. Please SMS the word “FoodBank” to 40421 to make a R20 donation, which will enable FoodBank to provide food with which to feed 12 hungry people. (Half of FoodBank’s beneficiaries are children.)

FoodBank South Africa was established in 2009 through the merger of a number of hunger relief organisations. FoodBank’s Food Rescue Programme rescues thousands of tonnes of fresh, healthy, nutritious food each year, which would otherwise end up on rubbish dumps.
