Skills going sheep at PMI Agriculture

In November 2013, PMI Agriculture celebrated the graduation of our first 40 sheep shearers all of whom successfully completed the NQF Level 1 Animal Production Qualification as well as the Sheep Shearing Skills programme.

This is a result of the BKB – PMI Agriculture sheep shearing project, which will see more than 2000 sheep shearers trained over the next three years. The fourth intake of learners started on 27 April this year bringing the total number of learners currently on this programme to 120.

Thanks to BKB’s commitment to providing meaningful and sustainable employment post training, 97% of our 80 graduates are currently working in shearing teams. As a further show of their commitment to the success of the programme, BKB has partnered with PMI Agriculture to secure the use of a functioning sheep farm in the Edenburg district in the Free State.

The Kromdraai facility is in the process of being set up to offer a comprehensive sheep husbandry curriculum to target emerging and existing sheep farmers.
